The issue relates to inconsistencies between Health and Human Services and Veterans Affairs
For Immediate Release
Greater St. Louis, Missouri (March 5, 2025) Today, Hof announces recent outreach efforts to address a critical issue affecting veterans assigned a 100 percent evaluative rating from the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) who are encouraged by Veterans Affairs (VA) to seek secondary health insurance through the HHS marketplace.
In outreach to the Federal Executive Board (FEB) Chair and Deputy Chair of Kansas City, Hof has urged Health and Human Services (HHS) to urge the VA to implement a very simple, yet necessary, solution—publishing a brief clarification on the VA’s website to inform veterans that their marketplace applications may be denied due to HHS’s requirement for justification of the necessity of secondary coverage.
“Disabled veterans should not have to endure unnecessary roadblocks when seeking secondary healthcare coverage that they are simply encouraged by the VA to get in the first place,” said Joseph Hof, Managing Attorney of Hof Law, LLC. “This issue can be resolved with a simple clarification on the VA’s website, saving veterans time and frustration. I have personally faced this challenge and am taking action to request that Federal officials whose job it is to to the very thing I am requesting, help ensure other disabled veterans do not have to experience the same confusion, and sunk time, that I did.”
"Today, I asked the FEB Chair and Deputy Chair of Kansas City, sitting in Saint Louis, to help facilitate a straightforward solution by encouraging the VA to post the necessary guidance," Joe Hof went on to say. This step will provide clarity to veterans and prevent unnecessary denials of secondary health insurance applications.
Hof remains committed to advocating for veterans and is happily available to brief this matter further to the FEB of Kansas City if requested to do so.
