New York, New York – The firm takes a moment to pause, and reflect, on the life and memory of The Honorable Sylvester Turner, who passed away in Washington, DC, this morning. Mr. Turner represented Texas on The Hill; he was the mayor of the City of Houston from 2015 to 2024.
During Managing Attorney Joseph Hof's time in Austin, Texas, from July 2018 to June 2019, Joe had the privilege of working in alignment with then-Mayor Turner’s long-term recovery priorities following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. As part of a broader effort to help communities rebuild from the catastrophic impacts of the HIM hurricanes—Harvey, Irma, and Maria—Joe witnessed firsthand the resilience and determination that Mayor Turner's folks at the Texas Division of Emergency Management embodied in his leadership. "Though our shared efforts spanned just eleven months, the commitment we both held to helping Texans recover remains an enduring memory of pride for me," Joe was quoted as saying.
Mayor Turner’s passion for service, his steadfast leadership, and his unwavering commitment to the people of Houston and beyond have left an indelible mark. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and all those mourning his passing. May his legacy continue to inspire those who work to serve their communities with the same dedication and heart.
